Properties of coconut sugar

coconut sugar

Coconut sugar is derived from the flowers of the coconut tree. It has a sweetness that is similar to cane sugar, but without the negative health effects. It is a natural sweetener that has a low Glycemic Index and is a mine of valuable nutrients - filled with a huge amount of vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

The Glycemic Index is a measurement of how a food affects our body's glucose levels. The higher the score, the greater our blood sugar will rise after eating the food. Coconut sugar has a GI of 35 while other sugars are in the range from 65-100.

Low Glycemic Index foods can help balance and control health conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity. Eating low glycemic food may also protect the body against cardiovascular disease and hypoglycemia. It also reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, gallbladder disease, coronary heart disease and breast cancer.

Coconut sugar contains a lot of extremely valuable minerals - calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, copper, manganese, phosphorus and boron. Minerals are necessary for many body functions, such as muscle and bone growth, cell production, mental development, immune system and enzyme regulation. Coconut sugar also contains 12 of the B vitamins and 16 out of the 20 amino acids, such as glutamine, which is extremely important in many organic processes such as metabolism. Glutamine is also used to make glutamic acid, which is involved in maintaining a healthy heart and normal brain functions.
